Malaria is endemic in Côte d’Ivoire throughout the entire year and is the top reason for medical consultations and hospitalizations. The U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) aims to reduce malaria morbidity and mortality by increasing the proportion of the population sleeping under an insecticide-treated mosquito net, the number of pregnant women taking preventative prophylaxis, and the percentage of malaria cases that  are confirmed and treated in accordance with national guidelines.

PMI funded PMI Measure Malaria (PMM) to assist Cote d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Health (MOH) and National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) with leveraging a high-performing health information system (HIS) to produce quality data for evidence-based decision-making. PMM worked to support the NMCP to develop malaria surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation guidance and strategic documents; initiate a DHIS2 desk review; and identify data quality and use issues to prepare for scale up of HIS and SME training to aid in the implementation of routine data quality improvement interventions at the health facility level. Such approaches helped strengthen the NMCP’s ability to report quality malaria indicators on a monthly basis through DHIS2.
